In musical New Orleans, Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes stands out as the best blues harmonicist in town. His innovative and energetic style draws equally from late greats like Sonny Boy Williamson and modernists Lee Oskar and Carey Bell. Sunpie has further distinguished himself as a zydeco accordionist and powerful singer. Musical expression grew out of his early immersion in the blues tradition carried on by his father and the community around him. "Blues is central of all my music," he declares. "The music I write, perform, and record comes to me in dreams. It was my grandmother who explained this direct way of receiving information to me."
