The Webcast F.A.Q.
- Why can't I see the live webcast?
- The webcast hasn't started yet or is already over. The video feed is only active during the show itself.
- The webcast has been cancelled. The musicians may have declined to webcast the show.
- You are using an incompatible media player. The Tipitina's webcasts work best with Windows Media Player. As an alternative, PCs can trying using the open-source Media Player Classic; Macs can try running the webcasts through the Quicktime player with Windows Media Components for QuickTime.
- Your media player is unable to use the correct protocol.
- Try connecting to the live webcast using the HTTP protocol:
- Try connecting to the live webcast using the MMS protocol:
- You might also try typing these addresses directly into your media player, instead of clicking the links.
- You are unable to connect to the Tipitina's Media Server. If you are viewing this page, you at least have a connection to the Tipitina's media server, which itself connects to the live webcast video feed.
- First, try to connect to this test clip: Test Pattern (HTTP) | Test Pattern (MMS)
- If the test clip plays, then you are connected to the Tip's media server. If you still can't connect to the live webcast stream, the video feed and/or the cameras may be switched off. Try calling the club (504-895-TIPS) to have them check the video feed.
- If the test clip doesn't play, or doesn't connect:
- The media server may be turned off or locked up. Try calling the club (504-895-TIPS) to have them check the media server.
- There is a bottleneck somewhere in the connection between your computer and the Tip's media server. The infrastructure of New Orleans is still in crummy shape, and it's possible that there are network problems within the city that are blocking or reducing the capacity of the webcasts. Try calling your congressman.
- Too many people are trying to view the webcast. Although this is theoretically possible, Tipitina's allocates generous bandwidth and media server capacity for many, many viewers.
- I missed the live webcast. When can I see it again? Will a clip be posted? Can I download a copy or buy it on DVD?
- Live webcasts are not rebroadcast and are not necessarily recorded.
- The clips on the Archived Clips page are from before Hurricane Katrina. No new web clips are currently being edited and posted.
- A few concerts by national artists or special benefit performances for the Tipitina's Foundation are recorded for historic purposes. Currently there are no plans to make these recordings available.
- I still can't watch the webcast and I'm really mad!
- Technically that's not a question, but try this: open your wallet. Hey, look! All of your money is still in there!
- Stand up, step away from your computer and walk outside. Now go to a show and support great live music.
